Ultraviolet light (UV) is a form of light with a short wavelength which is invisible to the human eye. Ultraviolet light’s is located on the Electromagnetic spectrum between visible light and X-rays. The sun emits UV light but it mostly gets absorbed by the Ozone layer.

Yes, UV light harms the DNA of bacteria, viruses, mold and spores, disabling their ability to duplicate, neutralizing them and thus rendering them harmless.

Yes. Recent studies have found that UV light with a wavelength of 254 Nanometers has the capacity to neutralize Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

Ultra 5 is installed within the central air conditioning system, where it irradiates and purifies incoming air. Ultra 5 leverages the fact that the AC continually circulates air throughout indoor spaces, and turns it into a mechanism to deliver a stream of purified air that dramatically decreases the contagion risk for airborne diseases, including Covid-19.

UV light’s sterilizing qualities have been discovered over a century ago. The technology was first used to sterilize water and has been installed in thousands of water treatment plants around the globe. In recent years, its application for air purification has been developed and implemented in hospitals, universities, labs and other such sensitive locations. Steriline wishes to innovate by creating simple air purification solutions that could be more widely implemented.

Until the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic there has been low public awareness regarding the reduced quality of indoors air, and the implications it has on the spread of airborne diseases are spread.

UV based air purification systems have been a standard feature in places such as hospitals for years, and since the beginning of the pandemic have been gaining public interest.

It is impossible to completely prevent the risk of infections, and so it is crucial to continue taking preventative measures such as social distancing and mask wearing. The system does reduce the risk of infection by continually purifying the air indoors, but despite its effectiveness, there is no solution that can substitute other precautions and they should be adhered to at all times.

It is a surprising fact that over 90% of the air expelled by AC vents is recycled air that originated from within the same room it is being expelled to and less than 10% is fresh outside air.

In any shared indoor space, we breath the same air that has been exhaled by other people. When a sick person coughs, sneezes, speaks or even breathes, he disperses thousands of virus copies called virions. These virions can stay suspended in the air for long enough to circulate via the AC system, risking anyone who’s sharing the space.

In the beginning of July 2020, a group of 239 scientists from 32 countries published a letter claiming that Sars-CoV-2 is airborne and urging the WHO to update its recommendations accordingly.

We all remember the diamond princess, the cruise ship that had hundreds of its guests infected and isolated in their cells for a long period until the whole ship was evacuated. In a research paper published in July which has not yet been peer reviewed, the researchers claim that the AC system on the ship was a vector for spreading the virus. One of the ideas being brough up by the cruise industry in its search to return operations is equipping cruise ships with UV air purification systems.

Another little know fact is that the AC has been a major source of disease unrelated to Covid-19. Researchers even have a name for the phenomenon of people frequently getting sick due to prolonged time in airconditioned spaces – The Sick Building Syndrome. Researchers have found that people who spend a lot of time in indoor spaces display a higher frequency of headaches, nausea, respiratory issues and other problems. Ultra 5 will destroy not only Sars-CoV-2, but any other biological pathogens that might be spread via the AC system.

UV is dangerous under prolonged, direct exposure. Ultra 5 is completely safe since it is installed inside the AC system hidden from any direct contact with humans. The system’s components are approved with the most stringent standards (CE, CSA, US/C).

Ultra 5 is tailored to every client’s specific needs by Steriline’s AC experts. The system can cost between 3,500 NIS + VAT for simple solutions that fit households or small offices, and a few tens of thousands of NIS for larger more complex solutions for big commercial or public buildings.

The most basic system has an output of 17W/

Over time and use, air conditioning systems usually accumulate organic matter that impair their regular function and force the compressor to work harder and consume more energy to provide the same output. Ultra 5 will dissolve this organic material, improve the AC’s efficiency and lower the electric bill.

In addition, the continual sterilization of the AC unit’s battery, air ducts and other components, may dramatically reduce the need for regular maintenance and cleaning, further reducing costs.

The improved air quality and associated health can also increase work productivity and reduced absence.

Ultra 5 includes a component that emits UVC with a wavelength of 254 Nanometers that has the capacity to destroy bacteria, viruses, mold and spores from the air that passes through the AC unit. The system also includes special filters that are fitted on top of air vents and assist in capturing dust and other particles that reduce air quality.

The system is compatible with central AC units, chillers, VRFs and other systems. The system is currently not compatible with wall mounted AC units.

No. Ultra 5 system is connected to the AC unit and is automatically activated when the AC is on. The system does not require any maintenance. The UV bulb should be replaced every 8,500 hours.

The system includes an indicator light that shows whether it active.

A scientific way to prove the system’s effectiveness is by placing a petri dish inside the AC for a predetermined period prior to the system’s installation, and then again after installation, and comparing the results. A dramatic decrease in bacteria should be witnessed.

Ultra 5 will be most effective when the ambient temperatures are in the range of 10-50 Celsius.

Yes. Installing Ultra 5 on top of the AC unit’s cooling battery will dramatically reduce the occurrence of mold in the AC system. A research paper by the University of Tulsa Oklahoma has proven the effectiveness of UVC purification against molds in AC units.

A filter does not sterilize the air, and the UV component does not filter the air. Using a high quality filter along with a UV sterilizer will provide a comprehensive solution for improving air quality.
